5 Hooks That Work On YouTube
Your channel isn’t growing because 70% of your audience is gone in the first 30 seconds. Not because the video is bad, but because the hook is weak.
Here are 5 hooks that nobody forgets:
Curiosity
“McDonald’s doesn’t make most of its money from burgers… want to know what they really sell?”
Why it works: It forces you to answer the riddle.Contrarian
“Buying a house might be the worst financial decision you ever make.”
Why it works: It creates controversy and makes people defend or question their belief.Emotional
“I built a business that made millions… and I hated my life.”
Why it works: Vulnerability + irony makes you lean in.Relatable
“You check your phone first thing in the morning, right? That’s why you’re tired all day.”
Why it works: Everyone feels called out, so they stick around to see more.Behind the Scenes
“This is what YouTubers don’t show you about filming a $10,000 sponsorship.”
Why it works: People crave the unpolished truth.
Think you’re done? Nope, here’s the part most miss: you also need a closing hook. Not a goodbye, a handoff.
Examples:
“Now you know how I spot underpriced houses… click here to see the deal that made me $200K.”
“This hack saved me from losing everything, but it also created a new problem. That’s what I break down in the next video.”
“Try this one change for a week. Then watch this video where I show you the results.”
The opener gets them in. The closer keeps them moving. Keeps them in your ecosystem and drives community.
Try them out, test them, see what moves the needle.
Until next week!
