You need to have an email list.
I wrote this weeks email and spent a long time on the best AI commands to use to transform your processes and the pitfalls of AI and…. it got deleted. I though this autosaved but obviously not. I’m the kind of person though who thinks everything happens as it should and that email wasn’t meant to go out today.
“So Bo, what’s this weeks magical insight? Grab me by the short and curlies and change my world!”
No matter where you are on your creator journey, you have to have a newsletter. Regardless of the profiles you build on Instagram, Facebook, or Youtube, as grand as they are, you don’t own the audience.. they do! I know a horror story of a guy who had a YT channel over 1M and said something the internet didn’t like. Boom, channel gone…
A newsletter is direct permission when someone signs up to knock on their proverbial door and interact with them with no algorithm in sight. It is the most intimate interaction we can have with a group that isn’t a Diddy Party. My biggest clients keep their email lists as protected and respected as a top priority.
- Want people to buy your stuff ——→ Newsletter
- Want more views on Youtube ——→ Newsletter
- Want more podcast listens ——→ Newsletter
- Want anything to grow your brand ——→ Newsletter
So, start an email capture (like Beehiiv, or Mailchimp) and start selling and get what you want? F**K NO.
I study emails and sign up for hundreds to see the ratios of Value vs Ask.
95% of emails I get from people are in TAKE mode. Either BUY MY THING, or LISTEN TO MY SHOW, or basically GIVE ME YOUR ATTENTION. They do this with zero value add or even try to add value to someone scrolling on their porcelien throne.
When you email market, you are just sending out community notices to your community to add value to them. It’s your only goal. Simple as that.
If you did an AMAZING podcast this week and the information is incredible, email your list to tell them about the incredible insight and give them links to check out this insight…not “listen to my show”.
See the difference?
I’m basically saying, make every interaction with your community a value add, even when it’s an ask. If it’s a product, make it so that the product will add so much to the reader that you are just overjoyed to share with them and it’s all for them.
So how do you do this if you’ve not done? Here you go.
ACTION STEPS
- Sign up to either below for free plan
- https://www.beehiiv.com/
- Create a landing page to capture emails
- Populate the signup link wherever you post (IG Bio)
- Email once a week offering exceedingly delicious, tasty value to a community you love.
If you currently have an email list and aren’t utilising it, just pivot to the more personal value add and watch engagement skyrocket. Also, please don’t be a ********** and use Chatgpt to write it for you…. Be a human.
That’s it folks for this week! I wrote this in one draft, haven’t let it marinate, just wrote and sent. I’m sitting on my balcony watching the ocean roll in with a nice glass of Portuguese Douro wishing you all an amazing week.
Bo
PS. Oh, one last favour, my good friend Matt King took a huge step in his personal brand this week and launched a podcast. It’s been a dream of his to do. Him and his team have produced an exceptionally cool show and if you like great long form conversations on a ranch with zebras, then I think you found your new favourite podcast. Check it out below and say Bo sent you:
