If You're Not Doing THIS in 2025... Then WTF Are You Doing?
Hi epic person reading this.
(If you’re on the toilet reading this, double points and high fives all around. I raise my cup of coffee to you!)
I challenged a number of my clients at the start of 2025 to do one simple thing.
To become students of the game. The results? I’ve shared some screenshots below to show what happens.
It’s absolutely bonkers how many people I’ve seen trying to create Youtube channels and content yet consume and study ZERO of it. As if it was beneath them or some nonsense.
They don’t study content, they put in little effort, think because they built a successful business they are entitled to a big brand, delegate to a team who don’t have a f**king clue what to do and wonder why it doesn’t work…
I usually hear one of two excuses.
First is “I don’t have time”. Well if you don’t have time, get off the pitch and go back under your bridge! It’s clearly not important enough.
Second is “I want to be my authentic self and not influenced by others” same response, get off the f**king pitch, you’re not original, you’re a diva, stop wasting peoples time!
Both are just code for I couldn’t be arsed (that’s not bothered for the non-Irish).
Imagine wanting to be a footballer but never practicing or training yet expecting to be selected by a top team and become world class… This is most people building brands and making content.
People ask me how I can create hooks, help people build elite brands and audit brands so fast and effectively. It’s simple… It’s all I do. I study content every day and get 1% better every day. Consume, dissect, analyse, test. Every piece of content has something and I want to find out it’s why.
To me, it’s like looking through The Matrix, I can see why things happen and what’s about to happen. I don’t think I’ve watched a Youtube video passively in years. I’m watching actively for hooks, edits, retentions, titles, thumbs, patterns, etc… I want to crack the ever evolving attention code.
Most entrepreneurs and brand builders don’t do this. They stay stuck in their own echo chamber, guided by blind team and focused solely on their own content, branding, and messaging, unaware of broader trends and breakthroughs happening in their own backyard.
My rally call to you today, while you’re on that porcelain throne is to become a student of the game! Start studying and using a simple question to start.
That question is… “why does this have my attention?"

Step 1: Capture Branding Inspiration Daily
Create a Google Sheets or Excel document with the headings below:
Brand Identity & Design – Capture visuals, logos, and aesthetics that resonate instantly. It caught your attention? In it goes.
Messaging Mastery – Save messaging examples that clearly articulate brand values. Want to be like them? Save it!
Community Engagement – See someone who engages with their brand so well it makes you feel embarrassed how poorly you treat your own community… write it down!
Whenever you see standout branding, effortlessly save it. Add the link and anything else that comes to mind. Simple habit, big results.
Step 2: Weekly Brand Audit Session
Set aside one hour each week for a "Brand Audit” of what you saved. You do this. Not your team, not your VA’s, not Billy down by the corner shop… YOU! Analyse what you saved by asking:
Design: Why does this visual identity resonate? Why did it tickle my tackle?
Messaging: How effectively does this message communicate its unfair advantgae?
Community: What specific tactics help these brands build loyal, engaged communities? People throwing comments and money at them like moths to a flame.
Step 3: Experiment and Apply
This is the step most miss. Actually do the work and apply what you’ve learnt. Make mistakes, be uncomfortable and experiment like a kid. When you go out on this new journey of experimentation, take this piece of advice I give my clients - “f**k the metrics, do the work, have fun!”
Step 4: Document, Refine, Repeat.
Log the results, not just views but the most important metric, engagement. There’s no such thing as good or bad btw. There’s just data points in a direction. Learn from it, adjust 1% and continue.
You can make your own system or whatever you want, but I suggest just simply diving in and asking “why does this have my attention?”.
